It seems as though everyone is talking about coconut at the moment. Whether it be using the oil to cook with or drinking the water for health, the coconut it has become extremely popular. But even putting that to one side, we love coconut oil for its amazing skin benefits!
Coconut oil (cocos nucifera) is solid at room temperature and melts onto the skin on contact. Being a natural vegetable oil produced from the meal of the tropical hairy tree nut, it is packed with essential fatty acids and vitamin E, which are vital for maintaining healthy, glowing skin.
Coconut products you buy on the high street usually smell lovely and sweet, but because the raw virgin oil usually only has a very subtle scent, makers and manufacturers will often add a synthetic coconut scent to enhance the aromatic experience.
So what are the benefits of coconut oil?
Excellent long-lasting moisturiser
Creates a protective barrier
Doesn’t clog pores
Anti-inflammatory (calms the skin)
Restorative and repairing to dry or damaged skin
Antioxidant (combats free-radical damage)
Great for moisturising a dry scalp
We love to use coconut oil in all our body butters for its excellent skin boosting properties, and because it encapsulates the Caribbean skincare experience of course!
Although originating from the same plant, yet not to be confused with the psycho-active drug, hemp oilhas many amazing benefits!
Cannabis Sativa is cold-pressed from the Hemp plant seeds (rather than the leaves), and is full of vitamins and essential fatty acids (EFAs), which keep the skin plump and soft.
Hemp is known to have the following benefits:
Balances out oily skin
Light and non-greasy
Doesn’t clog pores
Suitable for all skin types
This light green oil has SO many amazing properties which make it ideal for problem skin, oily skin, dry skin, even acne, where the skin’s sebaceous glands go into overdrive and create more oil! The temptation is to try to remove the oil, but the skin’s natural reaction is to then produce more. Hemp oil can help balance this out by regulating the skin’s oil production.
Here at The Soap Cabin, we are in the process of creating new products using this amazing skin loving hemp oil, so watch this space!
Happy New Year! We hope you had a good Christmas with a LOT of chocolate.
Apologies if you tried to access our website over the holidays – unfortunately it went down for several days. However, we have since sorted it out (obviously, otherwise you wouldn’t be able to read this post!), moved it over to another host and we have also made our site secure (you’ll notice a padlock and https in the address bar), so there should be no further issues.
So what’s coming up for us this year? As January and February are quiet months, we will be looking at what events we will be doing later in the year, and working on some new products. We hear that Chalfont Crafty Collective will be holding some markets this year, so we definitely want to be in on that! We’ve been really slack on writing the blog over the last year or two, so we will also be getting back into the writing habit and sharing some tips, information and other fun stuff!
We love natural oils, balms and butters and we used to make a Soothing Skin Balm which was perfect for dry, chapped skin, but we discontinued it after not selling as many as we would have hoped. However, we do love an all-purpose skin balm, so we will be looking at developing an exciting new one shortly…
Keep checking our Upcoming Events on the front page for details of where you can find our stall. Otherwise, our webshop is always open! :))
We have now done all our Christmas Fairs for the year! On Friday evening we had a stall at the very festive Carols on the Green and Christmas Market in Stoke Poges, South Bucks. It had been chucking it down with rain most of the day, so we were very fortunate to have dry weather for the event in the evening!
It was really well supported by the villagers and the choir leading the carols were excellent. There was a Santa procession, reindeer, barbecue and bar to keep everyone entertained. We were really glad to be part of such a nice event!
